Bring your Flash work with you

bellows reflash opens SWF and FLA files, Animate project folders and whole old sites. What comes out is a Bellows document you can edit, play and publish as an ordinary web page.

The movie as it was left: stopped, and burning away.

The same movie, converted and playing in a page.

This game was a Flash movie

It is a catch game written in ActionScript 2: move the basket and catch what falls. bellows reflash converted it with no hand edits. Press Play to start it, then use the arrow keys or the pointer.

The game shows a poster until you press Play, and it runs in a frame the page controls.

Convert a file with one command

bellows reflash catch-game.swf --out converted

bellows reflash catch-game.swf \

--out converted

bellows build converted/catch-game.bellows.json --out dist --trust-scripts

bellows build \

converted/catch-game.bellows.json \

--out dist --trust-scripts

Shapes, symbols, timelines, tweens, sound, buttons and text come across. A folder or zip of an old site is imported as a project, with the movies it loads and the files they use.

Or open it in the editor

Drop an SWF, an FLA, an Animate project folder or a zip of an old site on the editor's start screen. A plain summary of what is inside shows before anything opens, and imported scripts stay off.

ActionScript 1, 2 and 3 are translated

Simple calls such as stop, play and gotoAndPlay become behaviors. The rest becomes TypeScript you can read. Imported scripts stay off until you read them and trust them, one at a time or all at once.

What did not come across is listed

Every conversion writes a migration report: what converted, what was approximated, and what still needs you, such as fonts the file did not carry.
